JENO Engine (Jitter Elimination and Noise-shaping Optimization) Jitter is a major cause of distortion in digital systems, and is caused by mis-timing in the master clocks used in digital-to-analog conversion. To eliminate the degradation of sound caused by jitter, Technics has developed an original jitter reduction circuit, comprising a clock generator in the noise-shaping system to reduce jitter in the low-frequency range and a high-precision sample rate converter for suppressing jitter in the high-frequency range. Thus it reduces jitter in an ideal way over the entire frequency range. This works with a newly-developed and original high-precision PWM (Pulse Width Modulation) conversion circuit, optimizing the noise-shaping speed, the degree and requantization number, and the PWM gradation, in order to convert high-resolution signals to PWM without causing any damage to the dynamic range. These new technologies enable new Technics digital amplifier designs to reproduce the natural and delicate nuances of music. GaN-FET Driver (High-speed and Low-impedance Power Devices) In the speaker-driving section of the amplifier, Technics has employed a high-speed GaN (gallium nitride) FET driver device with super-low resistance. This enables the construction of a high-power amp using a single push-pull configuration, allowing the length of the large current carrying signal path to be shortened, and resulting in outstanding linearity regardless of the sound level. LAPC (Load Adaptive Phase Calibration) The impedance of a speaker is not constant: it varies according to frequency, thus altering the loading on an amplifier and therefore potentially the sound. Technics is able to measure an amplifier's frequency amplitude-phase characteristics with speakers connected, and has developed a speaker impedance adaptive optimization algorithm using digital signal processing to achieve ideal impulse response. Correction processing based on the new algorithm achieves a flat frequency response for both amplitude and phase, not possible in conventional amps, and delivering a sound with rich spatial expression. Technics Digital Link (Original Digital Signal Transmission) Some systems use a digital link between source component and pre-amplifier, keeping the digital signal pure as long as possible: Technics Digital Link goes further. It has eliminated the volume control function from the pre-amplifier, and instead transmits the volume control information, together with the audio signal, directly to the power amplifier in digital form. The power amp's jitter reduction circuit reduces any effect of jitter in signal transmission, then performs the volume control immediately before the PWM converter. This new sound transmission interface, Technics Digital Link, supports audio signals and also eradicates inter-channel effects by transmitting the left and right channel signals separately. Technics Digital Link has achieved an ideal amplifier configuration, minimizing any degradation between the pre-amplifier and the power amp, and resulting in superb stereo separation and reproduction of even the most subtle signals. The result is a more detailed and dynamic sound. High-speed Silent Linear Power Supply The accurate reproduction of everything from dynamic and powerful sounds to the low-level signals expressing delicate nuances requires a special power supply in an amplifier. It needs to be both powerful and low-noise, as well as capable of responding instantly to a continuously changing audio signal without any voltage fluctuation. The power supply circuit of an ordinary amp consists of a large-capacity power transformer and a rectifier circuit: after examining ways to achieve ideal voltage and current waveforms, Technics decided to use a choke-input rectification, plus a discrete stabilized power supply circuit. These technologies incorporated in the power supply circuit enable the amp to drive the speakers powerfully under any conditions. Battery Driven Clock Generator The best power supply for delicate circuitry such as the clock generator in the new amplifiers is one entirely isolated from any noise or fluctuations in the mains supply. Technics has extensive experience in circuits using battery isolation, having used them to create ultra-low-noise pre-amplifier stages in past analog amplifiers. Construction Dual Mono Construction The main amplifier layout separates the left and right channel signal paths completely, all the way back to the secondary winding on the power transformer, to prevent mutual interference and also achieve an ideal weight balance. This design gives optimal stereo separation, and also allows the two channels to be laid out in ‘mirror image’, giving equal signal-path lengths for each channel. Signal Path Minimization The length of the signal path is kept as short as possible to improve the signal to noise ratio, reduce potential sources of distortion and interference, and give the most direct communication of the music. High Rigidity Metal Double Chassis To support heavy parts and components and lower the center of gravity for improved stability, the inner chassis of the SE-R1 is made of 3-mm-thick plate, but the amplifier uses a huge, and very heavy, mains transformer: to support this better and reduce vibration, columns of die-cast aluminium are arranged at appropriate intervals between the bottom inner chassis and outer chassis. The external casing is made of a 7-mm-thick aluminium plate to resist the effect of electromagnetic noise. High-quality Parts Large, newly designed speaker terminals enable the connection of thick cables, and even the screws are high precision to ensure they remain tight, giving a firm and reliable cable connection. The insulators are cast iron for high rigidity and an excellent damping effect: this reduces both susceptibility to vibration, and the transmission of any vibration to external devices. We at Pro-Ject aim to bring back a classical analog concept from the eighties, and combine it with our advanced contemporary technologies. After eighteen years of turntable manufacturing for analog lovers on a budget, we’re delighted to announce our first deck not subscribed to budgetary limitations. Already, the critically acclaimed 6perspeX has proved the fantastic result of using magnets to isolate the subchassis. So consequently, for the Xtension this technology has been re-developed to utilise new magnetic feet, which almost completely decouple the main plinth. With these two magnets located in the feet, the turntable is practically floating. Combine this with the weighty 25 kg total mass of the turntable, and the listener benefits from minimal base resonance. This is a unique combination of ‘mass loaded’ and ‘floating turntable’ design principals.In keeping with these principles, the platter is metal due to its high mass. The old standard adoption of pure metal has been abandoned because of its highly-resonant tendencies. Instead, we’ve found a perfect alloy which we dampened on the inner side with Sorbothane®. Taking this base, we’ve glued recycled Vinyl records to the top (which act as a perfect mat) and bake this ‘sandwich’ before precision balancing it. The final product subsequently benefits from a wonderfully resonance-free, heavy platter. Another consideration was the amount of energy the tonearm base would have to take from arm and cartridge movement. These energies have to be controlled, as do those from the motor and the bearing (they have to be kept away from the tonearm to avoid interference). Consequently, the tonearm base on the Xtension 12 Evolution also benefits from ‘high-mass’ technologies, and is isolated from the main board by a sheet of Sorbothane®. Importantly though, this board is still able to incorporate the adoption of different tonearms. As we originally premised with this turntable, to be in keeping with its ‘classic’ ethos, the Xtension comes with a beautiful dustcover with adjustable hinges. Included with the DA-6400 is an AK-CC25 hot-swappable caddy containing a high-performance 240GB TASCAM solid-state drive. The caddy includes a USB 3 jack for stand-alone use – simply hand the drive to the client to offload the BWAV files into their DAW session. The DA-6400 records 64 tracks at 48kHz/24-bit or 32 tracks at 96kHz/24-bit. Included on the rear panel are SMPTE timecode, word clock, RS-422, parallel and Ethernet connections. I/O options for the DA-6400 include the IF-MA64/EX interface card, with both coaxial and optical MADI connections. This card includes a redundant coaxial connection so that MADI is passed through even if power is lost, making it an ideal backup recorder for DAW sessions. Other I/O options include the lower-cost IF-MA64/BN coaxial MADI card, IF-DA64 Dante card, and IF-AE16 AES/EBU card, with more to come. No dedicated recorder combines the high performance, flexible operation, and complete reliability of TASCAM's DA-6400 solid-state 64-track recorder. A stable, reliable 64-channel digital multitrack recorder The DA-6400 uses an embedded operating system for quick startup and simple operation. The system is designed for reliable recording when using high sampling rates and large amounts of data transmission. Files are saved approximately every 20 seconds during recording, so data losses due to unexpected power supply interruptions are kept to a minimum. Recording and playback is supported at up to 96kHz/24-bit (32 tracks) for incredibly detailed master tracks. The DA-6400 records to solid-state drives (SSD), the ideal format due to their excellent vibration protection, environmental resistance, and simple, maintenance-free operation. TASCAM has created our own SSD, designed for and thoroughly tested with DA-6400 recorders without the automatic "housekeeping" features that can cause disks to drop out of record. Internal components, including IC control elements, have been carefully selected and constantly tested lot by lot with the parts manufacturers to maintain quality specifications. The included 240GB SSD is pre-installed into a removable AK-CC25 storage case. Using the swappable bay in the DA-6400 unit, drives can be hot-swapped and then given to clients. The AK-CC25 case includes a USB 3 jack for rapid transfer to DAW systems. Another feature designed to maintain reliable recording is the high-precision internal sample clock, a temperature-compensated (TCXO) crystal oscillator with +/-1ppm operation. For the most critical installations, a dual power supply version (DA-6400DP) is available. The Ideal Backup Recorder DA-6400 The DA-6400 can receive timecode from a Pro Tools system for backup recording with synchronized operation. Using serial or parallel control, you can start DA-6400 recording operations from Pro Tools. In a studio or live system that supports MADI, you can use the IF-MA64/EX audio interface card. It supports MADI thru to include a DA-6400 between a mixing desk and Pro Tools (or another main recording system). The IF-MA64/EX features a fully-redundant MADI thru, sending MADI from the input to a another device even if the power is disconnected. No matter which interface you use, a DA-6400 can be installed for a compact, lightweight backup instead of purchasing a second complete system. Dante and AES/EBU interface cards are also available – with more formats coming soon – and two card slots allow the unit to support multiple I/O protocols. With a one-rackspace footprint and simple BWF transfer to DAW systems, the DA-6400 fits into any professional installation. Multi-channel playback for theme parks and installations DA-6400 TASCAM's DA-6400 is the ideal candidate for multi-track playback in installations. The solid-state drive won't wear out after months of use, and the unit can be controlled through serial, parallel, ethernet, or timecode.
