Ovaj tip dizajna zahteva telo kertridža konstruisano sa nultom tolerancijom, što je Regino polje stručnosti, a kod Apheta 3 i Aphelion 2 modela ova tela su mašinski izrađena od jednog komada aluminijuma najvišeg kvaliteta. Ovo je težak i skup proces za koji je potrebno Regino dugogodišnje iskustvo. Konkretno, potrebna je “nulta” tolerancija tela u odnosu dimenzije otvora za montažu pivota i otvora za montažu magnetnog mehanizma. Posebni atributi ovog materijala su njegova tvrdoća i stabilnost oblika i dimenzija nakon izlivanja, a oba su krucijalna za performanse Anije. Tada se pojavio izazov. Rega je dizajnirala i izradila prototip koristeći SLA sisteme u samo nekoliko meseci, dokazujući validnost smera dizajna. Onda se morao dizajnirati i proizvodni alat za kalupe sposoban za ekstremnu preciznost i dug vek trajanja. PPS je polimer koji se teško oblikuje i zahteva posebnu pažnju na način rada sa alatom za kalupe složenog oblika Ania tela i to je bio veliki izazov sa kojim su se suočili Rega inženjeri i proizvođači alata. Proizvođači alata poseduju najviši tehnički nivo, koriste najpreciznije švajcarske EDM CNC mašine, a njihovi stalni kupci su vojna i medicinska industrija, koji rutinski rade do mikrona (hiljaditi deo milimetra). Za postizanje ovog kompleksnog oblika tela potreban je najsloženiji alat za brizganje pod visokim pritiskom koji je Rega ikada dizajnirala. Alat ima osam glavnih delova, od kojih se četiri moraju kretati u savršenom sinhronicitetu kako bi se postiglo telo kertridža. Dizajn i proizvodnja ovog “umetničkog dela” trajala je čitavu godinu, i napravio ga je isključivo najviši alatničar sa životnim iskustvom u zanatstvu. The drive belt takes the rotational force created by the motor and applies it to the turntable platter, allowing the platter, and the record with it, to move at the required speed. The replacement belt for the Pro-Ject Genie turntable has a large diameter, and is finished in black or white. Its rounded design allows for minimal contact with the platter, reducing the transmission of resonant forces. To extend the life of your drive belt, avoid touching it with your hands as much as possible. Once mounted, use the speed key provided with Pro-Ject turntables to change the rung of the pulley.

Engineering masterclass Every aspect of the Planar 8 is engineered to extract as much detail from the vinyl surface as possible. We have used the most advanced materials and engineering solutions built around a supremely lightweight plinth to ensure the greatest level of performance. DOUBLE BRACE TECHNOLOGY A super lightweight plinth combined with a phenolic resin double brace mounted specifically where the increased rigidity is required (between the tonearm mounting and the main hub bearing) forms a structurally sound “stressed beam” assembly. This rigid plinth design prevents energy absorption and unwanted resonances which will add unnatural distortions to the music. Equally, heavier mass can transfer more unwanted energy such as motor or bearing noise directly into the rotating record. The use of braces instead of the complete skin allows double thickness phenolic resin in these key areas while providing further weight reduction to the plinth which directly addresses the issue of mass absorption and unwanted energy transmission. RB880 TONEARM For the new RB880 we have introduced an improved vertical bearing assembly constructed using an aluminium and stainless-steel, low mass assembly with vastly improved stability and rigidity. This tonearm is using our advanced preloaded zero tolerance bearing assembly adjusted to less than 1000th of a mm, this gives friction-free movement and zero levels of unwanted play. This subtle but effective new structure is only visible via small windows at the rear of the new bias housing assembly (see image below). A thinner stainless steel balance weight is used, allowing greater adjustability and compatibility. Finally, the RB880 is terminated with a re-designed, low capacitance phono cable terminated with high quality, locking phono plugs to ensure the best possible connection. EBLT DRIVE BELTS For three years Rega has been researching and developing with chemists the use of a bespoke new rubber compound for drive belts. Using a specialised curing system, the new drive belt offers superior consistency of modulus (a constant representing the degree to which a substance has a particular property, especially elasticity). These new belts are manufactured on Rega designed, state of the art, super-accurate tools which produce ‘perfectly round’ and ‘dimensionally accurate’ belts, critical for perfect speed stability. HUB BEARING ASSEMBLY The Planar 8 uses a new low mass central bearing assembly. A single piece machined aluminium sub-platter and hardened tool steel spindle run inside a custom brass housing which is cleverly mounted within the chassis. This new mounting is designed to eradicate unwanted potential energy being transferred or stored in the plinth. SUPER FLYWHEEL EFFECT TRIPLE LAYER GLASS PLATTER The Planar 8 uses a three-piece laminated glass platter which is the result of collaboration with a British glass engineering company. This brand new platter is constructed from two different high-quality Pilkington glasses. As a general rule, the only part of a turntable that requires extra mass is the turntable platter in order to achieve constant rotational speed. However, a heavier platter creates more problems for the main bearing design so again an ideal compromise creates the best solution. Practically this means keeping as much of the mass to the outside rim of the glass platter to create more flywheel effect but keeping the inside of the platter as light as possible without sacrificing stiffness. 24 V LOW NOISE MOTOR ASSEMBLY The Planar 8 uses Rega’s latest generation, 24 V, synchronous, low vibration motor technology. Uniquely mounted using the highest level of coupling while retaining higher vibration isolation than any previous model. This new motor mounting technique (mounted from the bottom) has been taken directly from the ultimate Rega turntable, the Naiad. This unique mounting method removes all stress on the motor body. The reduced vibration and more rigid mounting delivers superior drive from the new EBLT drive belts. Each motor is hand-tuned to match its own custom Neo power supply before fitting to the turntable to optimise the anti-vibration circuit. NEO PSU The Neo PSU offers a smooth power supply, an advanced anti-vibration circuit and fine electronic speed adjustment. It uses the RP10 DSP (digital signal processing) generator built upon a high stability crystal. The DSP generator will divide the accurate signal from the crystal to the exact frequency required to turn the platter at the selected speed. The DSP generator will also produce a near-perfect sinusoidal waveform to drive the motor. This, along with an efficient drive amplifier, generates a 24 V, AC balanced signal of less than 0.15% distortion, which is completely unaffected by any changes in the mains/line voltage and conditions. This then drives the turntable’s anti-vibration circuit, which is situated beneath the turntable. The perimeter drive-belt mechanism was inspired by the introduction of the RPM 10 Carbon turntable, which uses a fully-decoupled motor. With the 6 Perspex SB, the motor sits within its own cut-out inside the main plinth, lined with damping material for reduced resonance. The motor itself is an AC design, which is regulated by its own built-in speed controller. This speed controller not only offers easy switching between 33 and 45rpm, but it also generates an entirely fresh new sine wave for the motor – filtering out the fluctuations and distortions associated with a typical mains supply, for reduced resonance. Intensive research, development, and listening tests have been necessary to gain the sound they were looking for. 8,6‘‘ Carbon-Aluminium Tonearm The Debut PRO features a one-piece carbon-aluminium sandwich tonearm. The carbon layer gives the tonearm a high degree of rigidity, while the inner aluminium tube takes over the damping of the tonearm. This super stiff and uniquely dampened tonearm construction ensures perfect tracking of the record groove. The Dampened Platter The die-cast aluminium platter gets reworked and precision balanced in an extra step to obtain a perfect platter. The heavy aluminium platter has a ring made of TPE (thermoplastic elastomer) on the inside that helps to dampen all resonances and thus minimize wow and flutter. Nickel-Plated Metal Parts The nickel finish of the aluminium components results in a hard, resistant surface. This process enables us to produce very high-quality and sustainable components and avoid plastics and similar materials that continue to age over time. Turntable mats have been always a big discussion how they influence the sound. The interaction between the record and the surface can be tracked very easily by the supersensitivity of a good pick up cartridge. Common felt mats give a smooth contact between record and platter but has the disadvantage with static. That means that feltmats often collect a lot of dust which can be then transfered to the record. Also the damping ability is very limited which can be a problem with metal platters. Thick rubbermats overdamp the record and have an isolation effect which leaves the static on the record and hearable noise clicks are the result. Leather and Cork are 2 different but very interesting options to upgrade the sound quality. Resonances are damped more effectively than felt, they keep dust away and they have also enough contactivity to avoid static. How does it work? Connect the output of your phono preamplifier to the Vinyl NRS Box S3. First, the line signal gets digitized with a bit depth of 24-bits and a sampling rate of 96 kHz. If the input is too loud, the overflow LED will show it to you. You can then activate the -6 dB switch and the gain is fine now. The real magic happens in the digital domain. De-Crackling The signal gets filtered to not interfere with the processing itself. High frequency components are used as a marker for crackles. The dedicated algorithm can now detect these peaks. You can easily adjust the sensitivity with the potentiometer on the front. The LED gives you instant feedback on the process. Crackling parts can be reduced by up to 8 dB which is a big improvement for the listening experience. If you don‘t want to use the De-Crackling function, just turn the potentiometer completely to the left and the algorithm is in bypass. Vinyl Noise Reduction System (VNRS) The signal is first separated into two frequency bands and then fed into two expanders, which increase the signal-to-noise ratio. There are no noise modulations audible using this technique! We are able to reduce the noise by up to 8 dB. Connection & Setup The Vinyl NRS Box S3 is connected between the phono preamp and your preamp or integrated amplifier. If you turn it on, the Vinyl NRS Box S3 is active immediately. If you don‘t want it in your signal path, just turn it off and the device is bypassed and the inputs are galvanicaly connected to the outputs. There are two De-Crackling intensity algorithms available: the basic one processes the signal very lightly; the advanced is stronger with more heavy processing. Always try the basic setting first & adjust the intensity with the potentiometer. By pressing the „Intensity“ button you can engage the advanced mode if wanted and/or necessary. The LED shows you if clicks & crackles are reduced. If you‘re happy with the De-Crackling setting, but you can still hear a lot of noise, you can now activate the Vinyl Noise Reduction feature by pressing the VNRS button. There is only one preset for the Vinyl Noise Reduction feature and it cannot be customized in the same way the De-Crackling can be adjusted.
